Mastering Photography Planning with Photopills

Speaker: Matt Shannon

Workshop Description:
Join Matt Shannon for a hands-on 2-hour workshop diving deep into the versatile PhotoPills app, your ultimate tool for planning and executing stunning photography. In this session, we’ll explore how to use PhotoPills to:

  • Track and plan star trails, the Milky Way, and meteor showers
  • Calculate long exposures and depth of field
  • Determine hyperfocal distances
  • Track sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset
  • Calculate open shutter times for sharp stars
  • Plan shoots anywhere in the world with precision the the apps map or using VR (Virtual Reality)

We’ll cover both the theory behind these techniques and how to apply them in the field. Weather permitting, we’ll take a short walk to Kuirau Park, just 10 minutes from the hotel, to practice what we’ve learned. Capture steaming thermal pools, fossilized trees, bubbling mud, and vibrant autumn foliage, all while experimenting with the app to plan and compose your shots.

By the end of the session, you’ll know how to use PhotoPills to plan your next photographic adventure anywhere on Earth, making the most of light, celestial events, and landscape features to create stunning images.
