Rotorua lakefront at dawn

Head across the road from the Novotel to the Lakefront, check out Te Arawa Waka Taua (canoe), and follow the boardwalk to the East. Māori designs are inlaid
throughout the boardwalk, and along with sculptures, tell stories of local history. Beautifully landscaped with native plants there are plenty of spots to sit and watch
the sunrise or look across to Mokoia Island.

The boardwalk will take you past Waiariki Spa where you’ll transition to a track which leads you to Sulphur Point. Renown for its geothermal activity, the path will lead you through steamy vents and mud pools – a reminder of the volcanic forces that shape this region.

In addition to being a bird sanctuary, Sulphur Point is an area of ecological significance. Boardwalks over marshy areas provide perfect vantage points for bird
watching.

Early morning is particularly magical as the mist across the lake and rising steam create an ethereal atmosphere.
