Highland Station is a 1240 ha hill country sheep and cattle farm situated 15km south of Rotorua within the catchments of Lake Tarawera and Lake Rotokakahi,
The farm’s distinctive contour was shaped by volcanic activity which flattened forest, carved out hill faces and left the area overed in phosphate-rich mud.
80% of the farm is Rotomahana mud soil originating from the 1886 Mount Tarawera eruption. The remaining 20% is Kaharoa Ash soil from a previous eruption approximately 1350 AD.
Highlands Station is run to be environmentally sustainable and was winner of the Gordon Stephenson Trophy and National Farm Environment Award in 2015.
John and Katherine Ford welcome you to the farm where you’ll experience a working stock yard complete with sheep and dogs. The shearing shed will host a shearer and photographic model.
