Hamurana Springs Nature Park

Hamurana Springs is a taonga (treasure) to the people of Ngāti Rangiwewehi, whose association with this land goes back to the mid 1300’s.

Hamurana sits on the northern side of Lake Rotorua.  Today Hamurana Springs is a nature park and wildlife refuge.

Journey through nature as you take a riverside walk through a Californian Redwood and native forest grove to the deepest natural spring in the North Island.

The reserve is home to many bird species including black teal, scaup, herons, ducks, geese and dabchick.

Price of Entry: $20.00

Tarimano Marae

Tarimano Marae is located just outside Rotorua, in Awahou, just north of Ngongotaha.  The marae is situated next to Awohau River which local tangata whenua of Ngāti Rangiwewehi believe is a place of healing, protected by Pekehaua, their kaitiaki (guardian).

Awohou local and cultural leader, Ngahihi o te ra Bidois, and his wife, will welcome us on to the marae. They will explain the protocols of photographing on the marae, and guide us during the marae visit, making themselves available for photographing. Afternoon tea will be provided.

Cost (for transport to both locations): $25.00
