The reserve protects one of the few remaining stands of the native beech-podocarp forest that once covered the Waimea Plains and Moutere Hills. The canopy is home to kereru, tui, bellbirds and more.

Eves Valley reserve has a wide diversity of native species of Fungi in May dependent upon recent rains.A meandering steam through the valley provides opportunity for native bush and landscape photography

An easy 1.6 km loop track heads through the reserve, crossing Eves Valley Stream several times and giving access to diverse vegetation.

Shirley Kerr, internationally acclaimed mycologist  and author of A Field Guide to New Zealand Fungi (pub 2019), is giving two workshops at the Convention, and will accompany the field trip.
