Rotorua Camera Club celebrated its 75th jubilee during 2025.
Rotorua Photographic Society was inaugurated in March 1950, when six like-minded people came together to draw up a set of rules and set subs at 10/- ($13 today). The following month the first open meeting was held in the former Queen Elizabeth Hospital canteen. Within six months membership had grown to 35.
The Club became affiliated to the Photographic Society of New Zealand in 1953.
1971 saw the Society become incorporated, however members voted to change the name to Rotorua Camera Club to attract prospective members.
Over the years the Club evolved from film photography, slide projectors and dark rooms to digital technology and image processing.
Today members are encouraged to follow their interest in photography while enjoying inspiration and fellowship. Seasoned professionals or anyone starting their photography journey – all are welcome.
Camera type doesn’t matter – our members use anything from digital and film cameras to cell phones.
Club meetings are held at 7pm on the first Wednesday of the month at the Deerstalkers Association clubrooms, Neil Hunt Park, Tarawera Road, Rotorua.
Our May meeting will be held on Wednesday 6 May. If you’re in town, please join us!
