“Re-imagining landscape art from a photography point of view has been a mission of mine for a long time.   Often photographers simply document a landscape but I want to inscribe my own thoughts, feelings and aesthetic into my work.

I live in Central Otago, New Zealand which provides a dramatic canvas but I like exploring the region’s flip-side of subdued softness and quiet muted ambience.  Perhaps this is a reflection of my personality and it finds its way into my art.  My work is evolving into making compositionally confident images in a balanced, clean, open style that makes full use of contemporary photography technique.  Photography is my chosen medium and is a tool to help me make art using colour, shapes texture, pattern and graphics for a feeling or message.

Sharing the magic of my home in a way that invites closer inspection and consideration is a significant source of creativity and originality for me.  These touch points of familiarity often help my audience on their own creative journeys, shifting from traditional landscape art to more adventurous and experimental pieces.  I like to create images that provide a striking complement or contrast for people and the spaces they occupy.  I enjoy providing a starting point for quiet contemplation, challenge or starting interesting thought processes rather than shocking or alienating my audience.

I often move spontaneously and intuitively in developing my art practice but it is of paramount importance to me to inject grace, sophistication, integrity and an enduring quality into every image I create.”

Janyne has a long connection with photography and carefully edits, prints and frames all of her own work which is an integral part of her creative process.  She sells her work from her workshop and gallery on the main street of Ranfurly, a small rural town in Central Otago.   This is a working gallery and an approachable but professional space where she likes to share the stories of her artwork with her customers.

Janyne has been awarded NZIPP Landscape (Open) Photographer of the Year for three consecutive years and has earned her a large number of nationally and internationally recognised distinctions. Her consistent approach to producing award winning photography has meant that she has been recognised as a Grand Master of the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP), which is the Institute's highest distinction.
