Isel Park and Broadgreen House and Gardens

Nelson was only the second place to be settled in New Zealand and these houses were built and gardens established at that time (circa 1886) by wealthy pioneer families whose names are familiar today – Buxton, Marsden and Chisnell amongst others. Entering these houses is a walk back in time thanks to the preservation of antiquities and household activities reminiscent of the era.

Broadgreen has both heritage trees planted by the original owners as well a large rose garden established in the 1960s.

Isel Gardens has unusual plantings, as well as enormous heritage trees originally planted by Marsden with many deciduous varieties showing stunning autumn colours in May.
