Birgit Krippner

Award-winning photographer and Central Otago resident Birgit Krippner will take us on a journey through her images while sharing of her experiences traveling the globe and shooting in some of the most troublesome luminous conditions.

Austrian born and a Leica shooter, Birgit has lived in New Zealand since 2003. She is an internationally accomplished artist and visual journalist with a focus on capturing candid images using only available light; finding light in the dark. She often works in extremely low light situations, relying on fast lenses.

As a freelance photographer, Birgit is in demand from art collectors, corporate and private clients. She also provides specialised tuition and workshops.

Birgit’s work has been exhibited and featured both at home, in Aotearoa, as well as international galleries and publications in the USA and Europe. She is regularly invited to participate in live interviews on New Zealand's radio and television stations.

In 2015 Birgit was the recipient of the Team Lee Award for photojournalism, at the Missouri Photo Workshop in Perryville, with her project ‘Unexpect the Expected’, a Small Town Cop. In 2011, she won an award at Grand Prix Terroirs d’images in Paris, France.
